Had a trip on 7/31/07 Barry and his grandson Logan from PA ran out to the tc catching shorts and almost keeper size moved over to chapel hill channel and which 10 fish and 6 of being keepers using squid and spearing light action rods Logan first trip to jersey fluke fishing and the 10 year old is hooked loves to fresh water fish and never been salt water fishing be for wanting to come back for weak fish and also bass ending the day with 21 fluke 6 keepers 16 3/4″– 18 1/2″ 12 sea robins 3 sand sharks very nice day with a good drift and wind light looking around for peanuts very small now but a lot around with peanut getting bigger and the start of weak fish hope to have a good year when if it comes together keep looking at channel edges not much to be fishing for will let you all know when the action become red hot if some one would like to book a trip for livelining peanuts for weak fish and than switch over to fluke with peanut all ways producing bigger fish give use a call and share a great day fishing together call 732-585-5229 or check the web eveningtidecharters.com

The weakfish are cominto the bay!! Today we had aboad the Jim Twaite charter for some weakfishing. They had only a fair pull of weakfish, but they were up to 21″. The water temp. in the bay was 80.9 degrees. There is also tons of bait I read all day on my machine. Acres of peanut bunker. With that kind of bait in the water, the weakfish will invade soon and stay for some time. For the month of August, we can weakfish, bluefish chum, with bonito and false albies mixed in, as well as fluke. Open charter days for August are: 9, 12, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 25, 26. Anglers fluke fished, and the action was pretty quiet in the ocean off Sandy Hook. So the boat started working around the point of the Hook, and a couple of sea robins. Then the vessel pushed behind Sandy Hook to a number of spots in the bay, gradually making its way home, and fluke began to be picked up, and as usual shorts had to be weed out ending the day with 16 shorts and 5 keepers. A friend got into some weakfish action not great but the start, news that I have been waiting for, because can’t wait ready to target weaks along with fluke. I will let you all know when action is hot still have openings but do not wait. Running trips castnet peanut bunker and livelining them in the morning for weaks, because weaks can become finicky once boat traffic starts, and then swim the peanuts for fluke, which always produce bigger fluke. call 732-585-5229 the web eveningtidecharters.com

THE WEAKFISH ARE IN !!!! I have been receiving many reports of weakfish in the bay and have seen them being cleaned on the dock. They are here!! Not in the great numbers yet, but I am sure we could put together a good catch. August and September are the weakfish months in the Raritan Bay. Time to go weakfishing.

Fluke fishing has been up and down with plenty of shorts and a lot of fish just under the legal limit. The Gary Root charter on Saturday had a good pull of fluke to 23″. There were others up to 19″ and plenty of action. Recently, the Bill Stephens charter from New Century Transportation had a banner day with monster bluefish. We chummed offshore for non stop action. When we arrived there in the fog, the blues were rollling and grayhounding on the surface chasing bait. We caught them on bunker chunks and top water lures. What action when a slammer hits the lure on the surface. Bill is either a very good fisherman or very lucky. He not only landed the largest striped bass on the season so far on the “Just One More”, but now has also landed the largest bluefish at 16 lbs. !! Congratulations Bill !! We had action like that all day . 2 and 3 on at a time and Bill’s charter was tuckered out reeling them in and we even went in a little early. Super action. They are there now and I am sure the bonito and false albies will be mixed in on the next trip as they are a little south and the water is very clean here.

Hello from the crew of the CAPT. DAVE,

We now have a new member of the CAPT DAVE fishing team - Glen Adkins, a retired ball player and a real asset to the team, he loves to fish and is always ready with a joke or a story or two. With fluke fishing still on the slow side we had to think outside the box to produce good catches for our guests. Any groups that want to catch large blues, now is the time to book as we do not know how long this body of big choppers will stay. This week the results were surprising with sea bass to 4-pounds, some large fluke, an 80-pound-class black drum, and some red hot blue fishing - so read on.

July 23rd: It was a stormy and rainy day for the William Lenzetti charter. High winds and heavy rains prevented this party form fishing outside the Sandy Hook Bay. Sorry to say as hard as they tried, the fish gods would not give this group a break. The bright side was that this charter said it sure was better than a day at the office! A hearty group and all good fisherman, we hope the weatherman will give them a break on their next trip.

July 25th: The D&J construction party from NY came out for the day. A stop in the bay did not produce fish, so the Capt Dave moved to the outside and tried the Sandy Hook channel. The fluke fishing was still slow compounded by a poor drift. After a 5 hour drive to get to the CAPT DAVE, this group wanted some fish to take home, so we took a 45-minute ride further offshore to a patch of rough bottom, and the sea bass were hungry. This party ended up with a solid catch of large sea bass up to 4-pounds, and as they were all gentlemen, they’re welcome back any time.

July 25th PM: The Herbert J Sims party from Iselin took a turn to try for some fluke. This charter did it up right with subs from Slater’s deli, and they were ready for a good time on the CAPT DAVE. A ride to the Chapel Hill channel produced a pick of fluke, then a move to the TC buoy produced another pick of fish. The pool winner of this charter was Matt O’Grady from Robbinsville with a 2.5lb fluke. Nice going Matt! We’re looking forward to our next outing with your group.

July 26th: The Irvington Fire Dept., headed by Andy Zwiako, came aboard the CAPT DAVE. Heavy fog was in store for this trip as we headed offshore. We made a stop at the Sandy Hook channel until the fog lifted, and they were able to pull some nice fluke fishing the sides of the channel. When the fog lifted, the CAPT DAVE went further offshore to a patch of rough bottom, and this group topped-off their day of fishing with some nice sized sea bass. The pool winner of this charter was Scott McDonald from Oxford with a 3.5-pound fluke. Nice fish Scott! You have bragging rites in the fire house ‘till next outing, and you’re welcome back any time.

July 27th: The One Source Co.’s Tony Watermen met me on the dock a few days before and was impressed, so he decided to give the CAPT DAVE’s crew a try. Tony and George really know how to treat their people with food from Slater’s and goodies from Dunkin’ Donuts. Even though the fluking was slow, we made several stops around the NY Bight area, and this group was able to pick some nice fish. The pool winner of this outing was Tony Waterman with a 3.5-pound fish. Tony, thank you for the opportunity to fish with your party and we hope you will return!

July 27th PM: The Tim Sullivan party was aboard, and with fluking on the slow side, we decided to try our luck bluefishing with this gang. A one hour ride to the fishing grounds was well worth it. This group hammered the fish, and as soon as the first line hit the water, there was a fish on. The crew had a hard time keeping lines in the water because of the red-hot fishing, and within an hour or so they were practicing catch and release. There was no clear pool winner on this charter because so many fish were boated, but nevertheless, every one was a winner. Nice job gang – you’re all good fishermen.

July 28th: The Fairlawn A/C Club, repeat customers on the CAPT DAVE, are strictly fluke fishermen. This gang fished the Sandy Hook channel, the dredge holes, drifted the beach and the rip, and finished the day at the TC buoy. They managed a pick of fluke to the 3-pound range. T.J. Juchrewich from Pompton Lake took largest fish honors, and Don DeCara went home with high-hook honors. A group of serious fluke fishermen, we always have a good time a with this gang, and they are a pleasure to fish with.

July 28th PM: The Roger’s trip, was booked by Linda Peltz and Barbara Rodgers, Bergen County, to celebrate a family birthday. Capt Kevin Shalcross took this party to drift the beach with some surprising results. Not only did they pick some nice fluke, they hooked and boated a black drum in the 80-pound range. Jim Phillips was the skillful angler of this fish. Nice going Jim - a once in a life time catch. Congratulations! The winner of the fluke pool was Eddie A. Rogers with a 20-inch flattie. A nice family, we hope to see you again.

July 29th: A group of longshoremen, headed by Scott Ryan, come once a year to fish on the CAPT DAVE, and with fluke fishing on the slow side, they wanted some action. A return to the bluefish area that was productive a few days before rewarded these guys with non-stop fishing. Again, there were so many fish that the crew of the CAPT DAVE had a hard time keeping up with these anglers. Nice job, you guys really showed those blues who’s the boss! With a thunderstorm quickly approaching, and the box full of blues in the 10-pound range, they were able to cut the day a bit short and return to the dock early with a great catch. Nice going guys, you did a good job beating up on those big fish!

Fluke were hitting along the ocean beaches, though fewer keepers seemed to hold the bottom and the legal-sized flatties seemed to be getting thinned out, but the bay was holding shorts still had to be picked through Some especially good news was that more and more weakfish were appearing, and have been waiting for them and loves targeting them with light, 10-pound tackle and jigs, one of my favorite trips besides striper fishing. we will target the weaks as well as fluke when enough weaks turn on. 7-21-07 Today was a family afternoon in the Barnegat Bay,fishing for fluke with my wife Charlene.It was a good thing that she came along as she caught the only keeper fluke as well as a nice weakfish.The bay was perfect,with a light breeze and plenty of sun, a few more fish would have been better, but we had a great time anyway.

7-22-07 I had the Jerry Carino charter out on the bay this afternoon for some fluke fishing. The charter caught a fair amount of shorts with only a few keepers mixed in. They had perfect weather to be out on the bay and it seemed more important to them that they had this quality time together and the fish were just a bonus.

Another beautiful day weather wise. A few small fluke and blues being caught at Sandy Hook today. Nothing major happening but great to get out onto the beach. Water looked nice and flat as well as the winds were relatively calm.

7-13-07 After my charter decided not to show this morning,I had two choices,to fish or not . I decided to take advantage of the perfect weather and go anyway so I made some quick phone calls and put together a group consisting of my father ,Harry and my step son Shaun Feehan and we were on underway by 0700.This proved to be a good move as the weather was perfect and the fluke fishing was very good. We had much larger fish today,with Shaun catching the largest at 5lbs and a good number of other keepers in the box at the end of the day.

7-15-07 Today I was back on the fluke grounds off IBSP in 20-30′ with a much colder water temp. than I had on Friday and the fishing did slow a bit . I had the “PRO” on board and was hoping he would have some luck,but even though he brought along his bucktail rod ,notably named “cyclops junior” he didn’t catch one keeper. Fortunately The captain was able to put some large keepers in the box so everyone went home with a nice bag of fish.

Fishing for fluke is slowing a bit, but is still good with more keepers than shorts common, and fish over 20-inches on most charters. Dave believes that the daily SW winds are creating poor drifting conditions. We tried fishing in the Sandy Hook channel and did not find much on the outside. No weakfish have been caught as of yet. Some boats have tried chumming for blues but have had poor results.

July 10th: The Ken Lee party from Rockland County wanted a try for fluke. They fished the bay and the beach for a decent catch of fish. The pool winner of this charter was Bob Lee from Nanuet N.Y. with a 21-inch fish -nice going Bob. A friendly group, they’re welcome back any time.

July 13th: Repeat customers aboard the CAPT DAVE, the Innovative Mfg., Inc. group from Hillsborough came out for the day. Friday the 13th did not bring any bad luck for this group, and these guys were a lot of fun. A few members of this group were never out on a boat in the ocean in their lives, but within a few minutes of instructions they were catching fish like pros. They fished the nude beach area for a decent catch of fluke. The pool winner of this charter was Norbert from Branchburg with a 24-inch fish. Nice catch Norbert! Looking forward to fishing with these guys again. Now if only I can convince them that they cannot reel the weights through the eyes of the rod!

July 14th: The N.J. American Water Co. from Short Hills, headed by Dave Quattrone, another repeat customer aboard the CAPT DAVE, came out with us for the day. We look forward to fishing with this group every year. This party wanted a try for blues, but with decent drift conditions they opted for fluke and were happy with the results. They fished the bay and the beach and boated some nice fish. The skilful angler who handily took the pool was 12-year old Nick Matarazzo with a 5-pound fish. Nice job Nick - bet that fish was great on your dinner table! These guys are welcome aboard the CAPT DAVE any time.

July 14th PM: First time customers, the Pierpont Mechanical Co. headed by Mike Cummings, took a trip with us. A strong SW wind made for some difficult and rough fishing conditions, but this party stuck it out for a pick of fluke and blues. Frank Nicoloi from Maspeth fished hard in the tough conditions and was rewarded with the pool fish, a fluke in the 5-pound range. A nice group, they’re welcome aboard any time.

July 15th: The Patriot Media group, headed by Dave Esposito from Somerset, have been chartering us for so many years now that we are on a first name basis. This gang always does it up right with plenty of drinks and subs from Slater’s Deli. A strong SW wind make for some tough fishing conditions, but with several stops on the beach and in the bay they were able to out-fish most of the boats that morning. Steve Raker was on board to protect his title as the best fluke fisherman in the group, but alas, Scott Paschall took the honors this day with a 24-inch fish. Nice going Scott - you have bragging rites ‘till next charter. A nice group, we always great times together, and we’re looking forward to fishing with them again in August. This time, I think Steve will bring some secret bait to regain his title!
